Dr. Atilla Kasap

Dr. Atilla Kasap is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Law of Digitisation and Trade at the Centre for Inclusive Trade Policy at Sussex University. As a lawyer registered with the Istanbul Bar Association, he brings a unique blend of practical legal experience and academic insight to his work. Dr. Kasap's legal journey began at Istanbul University Faculty of Law, where he earned his LLB in 2013.

Dr. Kasap completed his LLM with Distinction at Queen Mary University of London in 2018, followed by a doctorate from Wake Forest University in the United States in 2020. His transition from a doctoral student to a doctoral lecturer marks a significant milestone in his career. Dr. Kasap has played a pivotal role in establishing a new Law Department specializing in IT Law, reflecting his commitment to integrating technology with legal education.

His research interests are diverse yet focused, covering Artificial Intelligence and Law, the Law of Autonomous Vehicles, Intellectual Property, Technology Regulation, and the Law of Obligations. Dr. Kasap's work is characterized by a deep understanding of the intersections between law and emerging technologies.

Dr. Gizem Halis Kasap

Gizem Halis Kasap is a legal professional and academic, currently serving as an Assistant Professor of Law in the field of Private International Law. Her teaching extends to courses in "Professional Legal English," preparing students not just for the legal world but also for its global context.

As a member of the New York Bar Association and the İstanbul Bar Association, Gizem brings a wealth of practical experience to her academic pursuits, providing legal guidance in areas including arbitration law, international private law, and international commercial law.

Gizem's academic journey is marked by significant milestones. She earned her doctorate from Wake Forest University, where her dissertation focused on a comparative study of public policy exceptions in the enforcement of arbitral awards from U.S. and Turkish perspectives. Her LL.M. from Penn State University, distinguished by the CALI Excellence Award, reflects her deep understanding of international litigation and arbitration. Her academic prowess is highlighted by her achievement of graduating as the second-highest-ranking student with honors from Istanbul University's Faculty of Law.
